High Protein Cranberry Oatmeal

Get this... cranberries are berries.

Of course they are right?

But for some reason... a cranberry has never struck me as a berry. And now that I think about it... I don't k now what I considered them??? 🤔

I do know cranberries get a bad rap because if you're like me... you probably think of the cran-jello in a can during Thanksgiving.

I'm going to show you... cranberries aren't being used to their full potential.

So let's get into it...

Cranberry Jam Ingredients:

  • Bullet point

    3/4 cup cranberries

  • Bullet point

    1/2 cup strawberries

  • Bullet point

    1/2 orange, juiced

  • Bullet point

    1 tablespoon orange Zest

  • Bullet point

    1 tablespoon honey

Cranberry Oatmeal Ingredients:

  • Bullet point

    1/2 cup oats

  • Bullet point

    1 tablespoon of chia seeds

  • Bullet point

    1 serving vanilla protein

  • Bullet point

    1 cup water

  • Bullet point

    2-3 tablespoon cranberry jam

  • Bullet point

    2-3 tablespoon plain, greek yogurt

  • Bullet point

    Optional: Unsalted or lightly salted nuts or your choice

Cranberry Oatmeal Recipe Directions:

Step 1

Prepare the cranberry jam by mixing all of the jam ingredients in a microwave safe bowl.

Microwave for 40 to 50 seconds. I typically go for 2-3 rounds until berries are popped and jammy, stirring between each microwave round.

Set aside to cool.

If there's extra you don't want to use, keep it in an air tight container in the refrigerator.

Step 2

In another microwave safe bowl, stir together the oats... chia seeds... and water.

Heat for 70-90 seconds until you get the consistency you want. The longer you heat it... the more it will dry out.

Let chill for 2-3 minutes.

Step 3

Stir the vanilla protein powder into the oats.

Add 1-2 tablespoons of milk or water if the protein powder made everything a little too dry.

Top your protein oats with 2-3 Tbsp of the cranberry jam, Greek yogurt, and nuts.

You could even make this as a cold overnight oats recipe. Just putting that out there!

Quick Recipe Tips:

Extra Berry Jam

You'll have extra jam... so use it on:

    Toast (healthy toast)

  • Bullet point

    Mixed into yogurt

  • Bullet point

    Protein shakes

  • Bullet point

    Even just eat with a spoon as a little pre-workout glucose dump

Non-Fat Greek Yogurt

I used non-fat Greek yogurt. But you can use whatever you want.

Keep in mind though... your decision will impact the macros and calories I've listed in this post.

Make It Overnight Oats

You can absolutely make this an overnight oat recipe.

Follow the directions above and chill overnight. You can set the jam and nuts... then chill. Or you can wait until the morning to add the jam and nuts. It's up to you!
