I was blown away...
I knew these healthy donuts would be good.
For the past 4-6 months, I've learning more about baking and was confident I could create a tasty, doughy sweet treat.
But when it came time to take a bite...
There's no hiding the surprise on my face at just how freaking good these came out.
You have "good".
And then you have "Holy amaze-balls!"
These were the latter.
You have to make them. Just be careful.
The only sweetener is a dash of honey (except for the glaze). The rest of the sweetness comes from strawberries and vanilla.
The glaze does use sugar. But you don't need the glaze.
Before we jump to the recipe, let's talk yeast.
I used to think any recipe that called for yeast was too complicated and time consuming.
I always thought...
-
Don't you have to let dough rest and rise for HOURS before yout get to bake and eat?
-
And what about rolling/kneading dough?
It seemed complicated so I avoided it.
But I took inspriation from all the new bakers created from the lockdowns... and gave it a go.
Guess what I learned?
Yeast isn't so hard after all.
And these donuts are the perfect way to ease into yeasty baking.
That sounds gross. Haha.
These donuts are not gross though.
The other important ingredient...
Greek yogurt!
Not only does yogurt increase the protein in each donut...
It transforms the dough to make it soft, pillowy and chewy.
With all that hype...
I bet you're in the kitchen already warming some milk to wake up your yeast.
So let's do this!
