In 2010, Tim Ferriss wrote The Four Hour Body .
In it, he shared all sorts of personal experiments he tested on himself for his fitness, nutrition and overall health.
I guess you could say he lead the modern day bio hacking trend.
I actually respect him for that. I always encourage my FWW Live members to test things (as long as it's safe).
Part of his book pushed the 30-30-30 Principle.
I completely forget about it until someone recently asked for my thoughts on it based off a TikTok.
I did some research, found this helpful article and decided to break it down in this episode of the Fit Women's Weekly Podcast.
Here's a quick overview:
-
The 30-30-30 diet encourages you to eat 30g of protein within 30 minutes of waking up and go do a 30 minute morning workout. That's it.
-
Is it going to make you lose weight? No. Those 3 things alone won't put you into a caloric deficit but they can help set the day up for healthier choices which CAN lead to a deficit for weight loss.
-
Why is protein so important for weight loss? I break down digestion rates of each of the macro nutrients as well as thermogenesis... how much energy is used to break down food.
-
Why are morning workouts superb? Besides helping you wake-up, it creates a more manageable routine for consistency. And if you're waking up early to workout, you might go to bed earlier too. Never a bad thing.
-
Overall, these are great habits to introduce to your day to help build additional healthy habits that when combined can help you see results.
Is it a fad?
No. Is it going to hurt you? Absolutely not.
But it's not a diet.
I encourage anyone before starting the 30-30-30 actions to have realistic expectations on what you'll get out of it.
Don't be upset when after 3 weeks you haven't lost a single pound. Look at it as a starter to creating a better lifestyle.
